A Googly Peek into Racism

Racism is rampant. Maybe this election has made people less racist, maybe it hasn't. At the very least, I hope that it has made people realize that, yes, racism is still very much alive. As a quick illustration, check out the top 10 Google search suggestions for Obama: 30% are race-related issues: "birth certificate", "muslim" and "antichrist".

The most frustrating part is that people don't even see the racism and sexism. A Google coworker who had a "Hillary Nutcracker" displayed in his office window - he probably didn't think about how that's dripping with sexism. Nor did the Republican friend who asked online for one good thing that "Barack HUSSEIN Obama" has ever done. Nor does the other friend who asserts that Colin Powell only endorsed Barack Obama because he's black.

We don't see these things because we see them all too often. We've become immune to it. It's time that we wake up and call these things out for the racist, sexist acts that they are.

I totally agree...Be it one form or the other...I was surprised to see even in major organizations, people discriminating in every possible way that they can...

I wonder when people learn from this...may be if they are put in a similar situation...but not everyone will go through that...can they? I wonder....

I have to agree, you see it everywhere. It seems so much part of the human condition. We seek out differences so we can in some way feel superior.

I totally agree.

Racism exists even now!!!

The THIRD item is antichrist??? That is unbelievable. I can't fathom that so many people could be so out of touch with reality.

I was talking to the son of a good friend over Christmas. He's 23 well educated with a good degree and a bright future. I was shocked by his racist and sexist views. He's had the best education possible, not to mention rubbing shoulders with royalty (from the middle east) Yet is the most narrow minded moron I have met for many years. If that's the future, we're in big trouble!

What about for "George Bush"? No stupid and ridiculous name calling from you 'enlightened' liberals, I'm sure.

Simon - Sure, let's do a search for George Bush. I see, in the search drop down, "George Bush Shoe, George Bush Quotes, George Bush IQ, George Bush Height". While some of these might be critical, are any of those comments based on prejudice (racist, sexist, etc)? No.

Do you see the difference? While people might mock - or even hate - George Bush, it's not on the grounds of racism.

Criticize Obama all you want. Call him stupid, a bad speaker without his teleprompter, too liberal, or whatever you want. Just stay away from the comments that are racially motivated.
